This calculator is based on the April 2012 revised power tariffs for Tamil Nadu (shown in the table below). The billing cycle is bi-monthly. (Use this one for tariff calculation prior to April 2012)
Units | Fixed charges | From | To | Cost (Rupees) |
<= 100 | 20 | 1 | 100 | 1.00 |
<= 200 | 20 | 1 | 200 | 1.50 |
<= 500 | 30 | 1 | 200 | 2.00 |
201 | 500 | 3.00 | ||
> 500 | 40 | 1 | 200 | 3.00 | 201 | 500 | 4.00 | > 500 | 5.75 |

Calculation is wrong. In this line
return (slab0.value * slab0.rate) + (slab1.value * slab1.rate) + ((units - slab1.value) * slab2.rate) + this.fixed;
Should be (slab1.value-slab0.value)*slab1.rate.
Oops! Fixed it. Thanks Raghunandan nice catch.
the unit calculator makes mistakes since for our house 670 unit we have been charged at Rs.2363 against consumption. the tarif calculator shows as Rs.2817 for the same 670 units for two months
I think this would be due to some of the units being calculated as per the old tariff (prorated) and the remaining as per the new tariff.
Checking the tariff's at the tangedco site (http://www.tangedco.gov.in/linkpdf/Revtariff-new.pdf) and calculating as per that, we get a total of (200x3 + 300x4 + 170x5.75 + 40) Rs 2817.50.
501 unit(s) will cost you INR 1845.75
500 unit(s) will cost you INR 1330.00
---------- why this much of differnce
Indeed. I don't understand the logic behind this myself.
Guess our representatives (public servants) with all their "wisdom" have decided this method of calculation is somehow a good way to calculate EB charges. :)
The TANGEDCO site calculator is now available here (after such a long time). It confirms your calculator here is correct.
I wish to know the consumption charges for 690 units for the period feb-22-2012 to april-22-2012
Since new tariff is from 1-April onwards. Try calculating the number of units per day, multiply it by no. of days in April and use that in this calculator.
Then take the remaining units and use that in the old calculator here. Adding the 2 should give you an approximate bill amount (hopefully TNEB calculates the pro-rated calculation the same way but am not sure).
Atleast we got some calculator against which we can roughly calculate TNEB has not cared to supply simple leaflets to all consumers while paying the bill when they have decided to loot so much from middle class people --anyway a good lesson for the foolish people who wanted a change in Govt in spite of knowing from the past
How could "0" units costs 20Rupees..?
Because of fixed charges.
can u put this in excel what whould be the formula
Correct calculation...pls provide me the formula-gopal
@gopal: You can view the formula in the page source (look for the function named 'calculateCharges').
